Now back to the story about my pattern Starry Night. Gazing at the starry sky, I found the inspiration for my new pattern. A surface pattern for my winter collection that would be wonderful to wrap gifts in, or to snuggle up in the couch with. A starry sky that casts a light in the the long, silent winter nights and guides us in our dreams and imagination, connecting us with the generations of star gazers that came before us.
What would the sky look like at midnight on New Year's Eve 2013? That would be one of the starting points for my pattern.
I found what I was looking for at Fourmilab Switzerland, a site developed and maintained by John Walker, the founder of 3D design software Autodesk. and co-author of AutoCAD. Here I could create the image above, that shows a star map for midnight in Stockholm 2013. I pored over it. Breathed it in. Absorbed it.
